#007- Knowing More About God

Now that we’ve looked at the Trinity, let’s pause to worship Him for how wonderful God is! Each person of the Trinity has a special role in saving us from sin and helping us grow as Christians. Let’s look at how these roles are shared & how God (in such a beautiful mystery) works in perfect unity.

God the Father: Our Creator and Guide

God the Father created everything—the sky, the earth, and us! He is all-powerful, always present, and knows everything. The Bible says in Job 42:2, “I know that you can do all things; no purpose of yours can be thwarted.” God loves us so much that He sent Jesus to save us from sin, which is when we do wrong things. John 1:12 tells us that when we believe in Jesus, we become God’s children. The Father watches over us, like a loving parent, and guides us to live in a way that honors Him. When we pray, we talk to the Father, asking for help to grow closer to Him.

God the Son: Jesus, Our Savior

Jesus, the Son, is God who came to earth as a human. Colossians 1:15-20 says Jesus is the image of God and created everything with the Father. He died on the cross to forgive our sins, making a way for us to be saved. Philippians 2:8 tells us Jesus was obedient, even dying on a cross, so God lifted Him up. When we believe in Jesus, our sins are forgiven, and we can have eternal life. Jesus is like a friend who shows us how to love others and follow God. His sacrifice means we can be close to God and grow as believers every day.

God the Holy Spirit: Our Helper

The Holy Spirit is God living inside every believer. John 14:26 says the Spirit is our Helper, teaching us about God and reminding us of Jesus’ words. The Spirit shows us when we sin, helps us understand what is right, and guides us to the truth (John 16:8-13). Acts 1:8 says the Holy Spirit gives us power to tell others about Jesus. He also gives us gifts, like kindness or teaching, to help the church (1 Corinthians 12:4-7). The Spirit makes us more like Jesus by helping us show love, joy, peace, and other good qualities (Galatians 5:22-23). He confirms we are God’s children (Romans 8:14) and helps us live for God.

The Trinity’s Work in Our Lives

The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit work together to save us and help us grow. The Father loves us and plans our salvation. Jesus died for our sins and shows us how to live. The Holy Spirit lives in us, guiding us to make good choices and grow in faith. For example, when we read the Bible, the Spirit helps us understand it. When we pray, we talk to the Father through Jesus.

This great partnership is a mystery, and even more so when we remember this verse in Deuteronomy 6:4: “Hear, O Israel: The Lord our God, the Lord is one.” Don’t worry if you struggle to wrap your head around this– God knows it will be difficult to wrap our earthly, finite minds around this concept. This is an excellent opportunity to pray and talk to God about who He is!
